After weeks of regular heavy rainfall and strong winds, the weather in County Clare and throughout the rest of Ireland looks like settling down over the next 7 to 10 days.

While the scattered wintry showers will disappear allowing for some sunny spells each day our nights are going to turn much colder as high pressure continues to build over the country and winds ease.

In fact, forecasters are warning that freezing fog may persist  throughout the daytime hours in some areas during the coming weekend and into the next week, keeping temperatures there close to freezing.

According to Met Eireann: “The high pressure will be in command of our weather on Saturday. There will be a good deal of dry, settled weather, however some cloud will be embedded in the flow and there may be some coastal showers. Temperatures will climb to between 5 and 8 degrees, while winds will remain light and variable. Saturday night will be cold with temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees, so once again frosty and foggy conditions will develop.

“Sunday will be a similar day with more or less dry, settled conditions. Frost and fog may be slow to clear in some parts of the country. Overnight on Sunday temperatures will dip to below zero, with more frost likely.

There will be very little change on Monday as the anticyclone continues to influence our weather”, added the national forecast service.

Meanwhile, long range forecasters are hinting at the possibility of much colder weather arriving from the Polar region during the early days of December with snowfall an increasing possibility.

In other countries, they call it winter!….
