Efforts have got underway to rehabilitate a loggerhead turtle that became stranded at Seafield, near Quilty, Co. Clare.

The Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) were contacted about the stranded sea turtle on Tuesday afternoon.

On receipt of a call from a member of the public, Simon Berrow and John Flynn recovered the loggerhead turtle measuring 600m curved carapace length.

The turtle, which was named “Leon” after the famous shipwreck in Quilty, has been transported to Galway Atlantiquarium this morning where attempts to rehabilitate have begun.
