Funding boost for Clare festivals


sean potts paddy glackinThe Government has allocated €17,000 to seven separate festivals and events across County Clare.

The festivals in receipt of funding include: Brian Ború Millennium Festival (€5,000); Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy (€3,000); Ennis Street Festival (€3,000); Feile Brian Ború (€3,000); Shannonside Winter Music Festival (€1,000); Ras na mBan (€1,000); and The Junior Tour (€1,000).

Announcing the news, Clare Senator Tony Mulcahy commented: “Local events and festivals have played a huge role in Clare tourism’s success in 2013. These events attract many people into the area and entice locals to come out and spend. I welcome this funding allocation as it will contribute to improving the festivals even further and assist in building the tourism sector.”

He added: “During 2013’s year of the Gathering, Clare embraced the opportunity to showcase its local tourism product. This funding will allow the relevant event organisers to further broaden the appeal of their events and festivals at home and abroad.”
