Clare County Council is presently running Blue Flag Environmental Awareness sessions for primary school students across County Clare.
Earlier this month, Blue Flags were awarded to Fanore, Kilkee, Cappa, White Strand (near Doonbeg), Ballycuggeran, Mountshannon and Lahinch.
The prestigious eco-label is awarded to hundreds of beaches and a small number of marinas across Europe each year. The award challenges local authorities and beach operators to achieve high standards in the four main categories of water quality, environmental management, environmental education and safety.
The Blue Flag Environmental Awareness sessions presently being held in Clare are described by the Council as fun but educational, featuring environmental games such as Race Against Waste relays, Treasure Hunts, Litter challenges, and other games on the themes of marine life, water safety and biodiversity.
