Having recorded the highest temperature in Ireland during May, County Clare is once again set to see mercury levels rising to a new high for 2014 today.
Forecasters say the Mid-West is on target to see temperatures rise to 26-28c as the first heatwave of 2014 takes hold.
Temperatures are expected to fall a few degrees after Thursday however, but it is expected to remain largely dry with just a small risk of thunderstorms later in the week.
The dry conditions are expected to persist over the southern half of Ireland for the early days of next week with temperatures climbing into the low twenties.
