The body has been formally identified as 41 year old single man Adrian Folan who was last seen last Thursday in Athlone.
Mr Folan’s body was discovered in a quarry at Kilconnell quarry close to the Cliffs of Moher. It’s believed he was found covered in rocks and slabs of stone.
The scene is located about 100 metres inland from the Cliffs of Moher walking path and about 3 kilometres south of the main viewing platform at the cliffs.
The area was sealed off as part of their investigation into the disappearance of the Galway man.
The Garda Press Office confirmed earlier that a man had been arrested in Galway in connection with the same investigation. A house in Carraroe in Connemara has been sealed off for a technical examination.
A detailed examination of the scene was carried out this afternoon before the body was removed by hearse to University Hospital Limerick where the State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy is due to carry out a postmortem examination.
Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious in and around the quarry at Kilconnell, Liscannor, Co.
