Shannon Airport has recorded one of the hottest temperatures of the year with mercury levels reaching 27 degrees during the past hour.

While parts of the west coast of Clare are shrouded in fog, the rest of the county is enjoying clear skies and sizzling temperatures.

A change is on the way however, with scattered thunderstorms and more widespread rain forecast overnight.

It will turn cooler during Saturday bringing about an end to the prolonged period of humid weather that has brought thunderstorms across the county during recent days.

It is expected to stay largely dry however, with temperatures staying in the high teens and low 20s.
