Fourth Lotto win for Clare in a year

The winning ticket was bought on Friday at Reddan’s in Sixmilebridge

A lucky punter in Clare has scooped the county’s fourth multi-million euro lotto jackpot win in less than a year.

Saturday’s €4,433,754 jackpot winning ticket was sold at Reddan’s Store and Post Office in Sixmilebridge on Friday.

The shop, owner by Patsy and Tony Reddan, has enjoyed previous National Lottery success but nothing on the scale of this latest win.

Kate Reddan said however: “We got the call about 10.00am and people have been coming in since checking their tickets. There’s great crack altogether and anyone who wins €5 lets out a scream and sure we all think it’s them then.”

“We have had no indication who the winner might be and we might never know. They mightn’t have checked their ticket yet or they could just decide to remain anonymous,” Kate said.

“This is our biggest win yet and there’s great excitement around the place. The ticket was bought on Friday and that’s always a very busy day in the shop,” she added.

Kate’s brother John is a former Clare inter-county hurler and was captain of Clare’s 1997 All-Ireland winning side.

Current Clare hurling boss Davy Fitzgerald is from Sixmilebridge and his mother is known to be a regular at Reddan’s however Kate said they could not confirm whether she does the lotto. “That would be private and personal,” she said.

“Our biggest win previously was in the Euro Millions when one lady won €430,000. We’ve also had a few smaller wins like €10,000 on scratchcards but this is the first time we’ve had an actual Lotto jackpot winner,” Kate added.

Mayor of Clare and Sixmilebridge businessman John Crowe said: “It was very funny after mass with everyone looking at each other and asking if they won it. The banter in my own shop was unbelievable.”

“Everyone was coming in an having the crack. One man said ‘the Mayor has it won because he’s smiling.’ The banter is mighty. Whoever won it, everyone here is delighted for them and we wish them the best of luck,” Mayor Crowe added.

Clare has enjoyed an unprecedented run of luck over the past year in particular with four lottery win’s being scooped in the county since last August and six in total since 2008.

In March of this year, a €24 mix play winning ticket scooped a massive €8,302,204 prize for another lucky winner. That ticket was bought in Kilrush in west Clare.

Last November, a couple from Quin Co Clare won a Lotto jackpot worth €5,553,404 while in August last year, a Limerick woman won a €6m jackpot with a ticket purchased in Lahinch.

In May 2012 a €2,688,982 winning ticket was sold in Liddy’s Costcutters, Roslevan Shopping Centre, Ennis.

In 2008, a staff and customers syndicate at a hardware store in Ennis celebrated a €2m lotto win which cames just eight months after their shop and factory were completely destroyed by fire.
