Almost 200 households across parts of Ennis are without power tonight due to the inclement weather conditions.

Strong winds and heavy rain are battering Ireland with Met Eireann putting in place an Orange Alert for tonight and early tomorrow.

Earlier tonight, 180 homes in Kilrush were left without power due to the strong winds. The ESB has since restored power to the affected homes.

Faults have also been reported at the ESB exchanges in Foynes in Limerick (87 customers), Charleville in Cork (101 customers) and Birdhill in Tipperary (1758 customers).

Winds are expected to ease across Clare overnight but further strong winds are expected during the coming week. The strongest gust recorded so far tonight at Shannon Airport is 80kph.
