It’s possibly the most unique – and certainly proving to be among the most popular – festive season events in the Mid-West and this year Christmas at the Castle Evenings is back with an even bigger and better twist.

Already hugely popular with corporate, friend and family groups alike, the Bunratty Castle events, which will run from December 2nd to 23rd, this year have an extra sprinkle of the festive spice as the Crooning at Christmas star, Limerick’s own rat-pack impresario, Liam O’Brien, will guest star on the bill on 14th, 18th, 19th and 20th.

The Christmas at the Castle Evenings are among the highlights of Shannon Heritage’s special festive season programme which captures the essence of Christmas for all ages to enjoy.

Crooning at Christmas will add a real sense of festive ‘swing’ to the Bunratty events as O’Brien sings with members of the world renowned Shannon Castle entertainers to put guests into the Christmas spirit.
Visitors will slip into the Christmas mood immediately on arrival with a mulled wine claret reception before settling into a three-course dinner in the medieval banquet hall and the special performance – and all for the price of €40 per person.

Looking ahead to the shows, Brian Nevin, Sales, Marketing & Reservations Manager, Shannon Heritage said that they were determined this year to add to the already stellar Christmas programme.

“Whether it’s for the Christmas Evenings at the Castle, or our Christmas Village in the Bunratty Castle & Folk Park, we have worked hard to build our programme up to what it is today. There simply isn’t anything like it anywhere else in the region. We were keen this year to make it even better so that’s why we brought Crooning at Christmas to the Bunratty table this year.

“With limited promotion to date, large numbers are already booking and this will accelerate now that we have Crooning at Christmas on board. Liam is a class act and anyone who has seen him perform will testify that it’s like being transported back to the Dean Martin era.”

Shannon Heritage has long since developed a reputation for having the best children’s show in the region and this year’s ticket sales (already at over 14,000) for its Santa Experience are already up by 27% on last year.

New additions to the Christmas Experience at Bunratty Castle & Folk Park are additional games for pre-teens including table tennis, air hockey, a pool table and a climbing wall.

In addition to Christmas Evenings at the Castle and the Santa Claus experience, people can also book to come and visit the Christmas Village in the Bunratty Castle & Folk Park which really is a special Christmas experience in a traditional village setting. Visitors can call to see Mrs. Claus in her kitchen as she prepares for Santa’s trip – making sure his clothes are ironed and he has plenty of food for his journey.  Alternatively they can avail of a wonderful opportunity to listen to the Folk Park storyteller as he recalls colourful tales of Christmas long ago.

“We are delighted to offer people a range of pre-Christmas entertainment and the great thing is we have something for all the family. For us, it’s all about blending that essence of Christmas from times past and making it relevant to today and we are really delighted with what’s on offer this year,” Mr Nevin added.

Special admission rates are available for visitors to the Christmas Village after 5.00 pm – the charge for two adults and four children is €15.00 and one adult and one child costs €7.00.
