Kildysart GAA held its AGM on Friday night in the community centre and a large turnout gathered for the meeting.
Following the opening by Chairman Tom Kelly, club secretary Noel McMahon recounted the events of the past year. In all, over 100 games were played by Kildysart players of all ages and the club looks forward to seeing this grow in the future. The 2014 highlights included the Intermediate team reaching the Championship semi-final and the U14 & U16 teams both winning County C Championships.
Tricia Donnellan then presented the Treasurer’s report which stated the finances were in good order. However, she stated that all members must keep their focus on the Lotto as this remains our main source of income. Chairman Tom Kelly discussed field development and in particular thanked Pat Breen, TD for his help in securing €120,000 from the National Lottery fund. As the club house and pitch projects are in excess of €235,000, Tom also discussed some fund raisers for early next year. A club development commitee was formed and includes Noel O’Grady, Brian O’Sullivan, Neil O’Connor and Michael Eustace along with the club executive.
The election of officers was a very speedy affair and Kildysart were delighted to fill all positions. The club thanked two out-going officers, Niall Ginnane and John Thomas Cavanagh for their time and dedication down through the years. The executive wishes to welcome newcomers Stephen Hassett as Bord na nÓg representative and Carmel Casey as the club’s PRO.
All motions put forward were passed with two deserving mention: the club made John McNelis an honourary member in recognition of his dedication and over 35 years’ service to the club both on and off the pitch. The club also wished him well in his retirement and thanked him for his success in promoting Gaelic Football at St. John Bosco Community College.
The other motion of note was the proposal to honour the late Joseph Kelly by sponsoring the U14 C cup. Joe was a great clubman and player and the club welcomes this proposal to honour his memory.
Under Any Other Business (AOB), Chariman Tom Kelly stated that a mandatory Code of Conduct will be established governing behaviour of players, mentors, members and visitors to the pitch and GAA grounds.
Members will be notified in the new year of a meeting to agree the content and all input will be welcomed. Lotto coordinator Jack Cleary was successful in his appeal to increase the Monday night lotto rota which will lessen the workload for all concerned.
Votes of sympathy were expressed for all those that died in the past year. Tom Kelly thanked everyone for attending and for their efforts in keeping Kildysart GAA such a vibrant club. He finished the meeting by stating that next year’s AGM will be held in the new clubhouse.
