Members of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) and SIPTU Nursing are to commence a ballot for industrial action next week.

Next Monday’s (5th January 2015) ballot is being held in response to HSE plans to place additional patients “in excess of agreed bed capacity at Ennis and Nenagh hospitals”, the transfer of medical patients to Croom Hospital, and the “critical shortage of qualified nurses” throughout the region.

INMO and SIPTU Nursing members also say they are concerned with the “chronic and persistent” overcrowding at University Hospital Limerick.

Figures released by the INMO today show that there are 36 people on trolleys at Dooradoyle, the highest figure of all Irish hospitals.
