Tuamgraney pair, Diarmaid Nash and Niall Malone secured the Munster Mens Senior Doubles 40×20 Championship last night in what adds to a growing list of honours achieved by the successful duo.
In the final, the Clare men overcame the final challenge posed by Ger Coonan and David Maloney of Tipperary winning on a scoreline of 21-17 21-18. The Munster Champions first progressed through the last eight defeating fellow Claremen Colin Crehan of Kilkishen and Clooney/Quin’s Fergal Coughlan.
Kerry’s John Joe Quirke and Jack Shea stood in the way of Nash and Malone in the semi-final and the Tuamgraney lads didn’t disappoint as they edged their way to victory and secured their place in the final.
Tulla’s Niall Bolton and Colin Corbett were also in action for the Munster Championship. They bowed out at the quarter-final stage losing to the talented Cork pair of Killian Carroll and Brendan Fleming. Carroll and Fleming had a premature exit in the semi-final as they retired due to injury in the second game which gave Tipp’s Ger Coonan and David Maloney a shot at the title.
Diarmaid Nash now holds the rare honour of being a Munster champion in both singles and doubles in the same calendar year. It is a fantastic achievement for the Scariff hurler as he now prepares for the All-Ireland Championships.
