Storm knocks out power to hundreds of Clare homes

More than 2100 households across County Clare are without power tonight as a result of storm force winds.

The worst affected areas are Westbury and Parteen where 1196 homes and businesses are without electricty.

Elsewhere, power outages are reported in Bellharbour (191), Ennis (173), Ennistymon (146), Caherconnell (55), O’Briensbridge (93), Newmarket on Fergus (96), Tulla (36), Kilkishen (51), Cratloe (161), Broadford (76) and Quin (51).

Met Éireann has an Orange Alert in place for strong winds to continue until the late Tuesday morning.  Thunderstorms and showers of sleet or snow are also expected to continue into Tuesday.

Clare County Council meanwhile, is warning members of the public to steer clear of coastal routes prone to flooding as well as seawalls and piers.
