In collaboration with the award winning Tunes in the Church concert series, the band, Ré, will perform seventeen consecutive nights in church venues throughout the country including St. Columba’s Church in Ennis on May 8th.
Ré features some of Ireland’s most innovative and decorated musicians, including Dublin based piper Maitiú Ó Casaide, Cormac Begley on concertina, Eithne Ní Chatháin (Inni-K), Peter O Toole from Dublin and Ó Maonlaí.
Over the past three years the band have performed at some of the main international arts festivals including the Sydney Arts Festival, New Zealand Arts Festival, Singapore Arts Festival, Hong Kong Arts Festival. They have also toured extensively throughout Europe and have performed at the Lincoln Centre in New York. They received a nomination for best music at the Bessie Awards and the production Rian (comprised of Ré and eight contemporary dancers) received an award for best production.
Ré recorded their debut album live as part of the Tunes in the Church series last July and in December their CD launch concert was sold out at the Unitarian Church, Dublin. Sticking with the church theme, Ré’s May tour will begin their ambitious seventeen night tour at the Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, and will continue to St. James’ Church, Dingle, to perform at Féile na Bealtaine. From there, the group will perform in churches in Bantry, Killarney, Valentia Island, Galway, Westport, Ennis, Dublin, Hollywood, Kilkenny, Carlingford and Belfast.
