An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission for the construction of a major new shopping complex on the Dublin Road in Limerick City.

Belfast-based developer Suneil Sharma is seeking to build a major shopping centre called the Horizon Mall at an abandoned site next to the Parkway Retail Park.

Mr Sharma has claimed the shopping development will create hundreds of jobs and will also incorporate the first Marks and Spencer store in Limerick.

Limerick Chamber of Commerce says it is “extremely disappointed” with An Bord Pleanala’s decision claiming the scale and extent of the development will have “a direct and irrevocably negative impact on the vitality and viability of the city centre as the tier-one location within the regions accepted retail hierarchy”.
