The “DRAGON” re-supply craft was successfully launched to the International Space Station (ISS) last night (Tuesday) at 9:11pm and 20 minutes later it blazed across Irish skies with several giant pieces of debris next to it making this one of the most spectacular spacecraft sights ever seen in Irish skies.

“In 30 years of watching spacecraft in Irish skies I have never seen anything like this before!” said David Moore, Editor of Astronomy Ireland magazine.

This now means that the Irish general public can see a guaranteed ‘space chase’ tonight and tomorrow night (Wednesday and Thursday nights) as the Dragon will not dock to ISS until midday Friday Irish Time.

The rare ‘space chase’ should be visible both nights when the brilliant International Space Station blazes across Irish skies with the Dragon re-supply craft next to in the sky, for a minute or so.

They will look like two bright ‘stars’ to the naked eye and be easily visible to the naked eye even from brightly lit cities.

Tonight, Wednesday Astronomy Ireland is predicting the two craft will be seen at 9:14pm.
