Bridge United secured their place in the finals of the Clare Cup after getting past the challenge of Shannon Olympic.
Bridge Utd 3
Shannon Olympic 0
Venue: County Grounds, Doora.
In the clash of two of the top four sides in the Premier Division, it was Bridge United who advanced to the penultimate stage of the Clare Cup with their composure in front of goal crucial to their win.
Former Clare Oscar Traynor defender Darren Murphy was first on the scoresheet which left the Sixmilebridge side ahead by the minimum at half-time.
Substitutes Derek Fahy and Kevin Kelly made quiet the impact when being sprung from the bench as the duo both hit the back of the net to guarantee their place in the final. Despite having the services of Garry Higgins who missed Clare’s Oscar Traynor semi-final last week through injury, Shannon Olympic failed to create enough havoc in their opponents’ side of the field throughout the ninety minutes.
A place in the final now awaits Bridge Utd and they will find out tomorrow evening whether it will be Burren Utd or Newmarket Celtic that they will face off against.
