Broadband boost for Ennis, high speed service marked for other locations

laptop broadband262 additional premises in Ennis can now benefit from broadband speeds of up to 1000mb after a new eircom service went live today.

The Clare locations able to benefit from the high speed service now include Ennis, Ballymacahill Cross, Clarecastle, Rockmount, Shannon Airport, Shannon town, Whitepark Cappahard and Killaloe.

With a one gigabit broadband connection, consumers will be able to download a high definition film in less than a minute and business users will have bandwidth capacity to transfer applications and large data files at rates previously only available to large enterprises.

A number of other locations throughout the county are expected to benefit from the service in the coming year, including Mullagh, Corofin, Lisdoonvarna, Kilfenora, Lahinch, Ennistymon, Inagh, Miltown Malbay, Doonbeg, Cooraclare, Quin, Feakle, Tulla, Scarriff, Broadford, Clonlara, O’Briensbridge, Bridgetown, Crusheen, Ballyalla, Newmarket on Fergus and Bunratty.

Large parts of rural Clare are not included in the plan however.

  1. Also an average Full HD movie is between 4-8GB and 100mbit / 8 = 12.5MB/s at full speed thats 320 seconds for a 4GB file which is not under a min.

    The fastest connection I had access too ever was over in the Netherlands at 500mbps and it took around 2 minutes to download a full hd movie of 1h20m.
