After thousands of entries from across Ireland, Clare band Otary have been shortlisted in ‘The Big Break Competition’, where Hot Press is giving an Irish act their ‘Big Break’ by putting them on the cover of the magazine.
After the huge success of last year’s Big Break competition, Hot Press and Alcatel Onetouch once again sent out a call for the finest rising artists Ireland has to offer.
Otary are included in a shortlist of 35 acts to remain in the race.
The winning act will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Kodaline, Mark Ronson, Noel Gallagher, HamsandwicH, Hozier and Foo Fighters by gracing a Hot Press cover in 2015, and they’ll also be invited to perform at a special Hot Press gig to launch their very own cover.
The first ever Hot Press cover featured Rory Gallagher ahead of his headlining performance at the Macroom Festival in 1977. Hot Press recently celebrated its 900th cover with Niamh Farrell from Hamsandwich.
Led by Diarmuid McMahon, Otary from County Clare released their first single, ‘The Beginning’ in 2011. Their album – also titled The Beginning – was subsequently released. Clare music fans can cast their votes today at www.hotpress.com/thebigbreak
