A group of more than 300 people, most of them from Clare, will climb Croagh Patrick in Mayo in aid of National Breast Cancer Research Institute (NBCRI) today (Sunday).

The group consists of people of all ages and is being joined by people from Cork, Donegal, Waterford and Dublin.

Among the climbers is a a group of students from Scarriff, and groups from Shannon, Ennis, Newmarket on Fergus and Clarecastle.

What started off as as an idea and a Facebook event page set up by Siobhan Purcell Tierney at the beginning of the year, it soon began to gain momentum.

The original idea was to fill a bus of 50 with each passenger/climber raising 50 euro each. To date however, 10,000 euro has been raised.
