Ennis Track star breaks John Treacy’s 5000m record

Ennis Track’s Kevin Mulcaire this weekend smashed the National Junior 5,000m record set by John Treacy 40 years ago in 1975.

Mulcaire trimmed more than two seconds off the record (14:04.6) when he ran 14:02.30 at the Trafford British Miler’s Club meeting in Manchester tonight.

The 17-year-old recently qualifed for the upcoming European Junior championships.

Mulcaire last year won the 3000m SIAB schools track and field event in Cardiff, Wales, and the Intermediate Boys 3000m at the Aviva Munster Schools Track and Field Championships in 2014, along with a conderable tally of other gold medals throughout Ireland and Britain.
