Irish folk-rock group, Hermitage Green have signed a record deal with Sony Music Ireland.
Compromising of Daragh native, Dermot Sheedy, Barry Murphy, Dan Murphy, Darragh Griffin and Darragh Graham, Hermitage Green have developed a large Irish following since their foundation in July 2010.
One album is the signed deal between both parties with the option of four more subsequent albums to follow. Hermitage Green will release their debut single ‘Jenny’ on June 5th, the video of which is below.
While Sheedy is the only Clare native in the band he is not the only member of the five-piece with a connection to the Banner County. The grandfather of brothers Barry and Dan Murphy is a proud Newmarket-on-Fergus man while the brother of songwriter and guitarist Darragh Griffin is a teacher in Clonlara.
It is a significant step for Hermitage Green who first came together following a series of spontaneous jam sessions. Clare followers of the band will remember that they were the headline act at the 2014 Village Carnival in Newmarket-on-Fergus.
At that event, the band spoke with The Clare Herald’s Páraic McMahon about their career to date and what plans they had. They praised their past sporting careers for boosting their popularity coupled with appearances on ‘Second Captains Live’ but banjo player Darragh Graham pointed out “it’s been a help but it would all fall apart if we didn’t have the music there to back it up”.
Hermitage Green’s next performance in Clare comes as part of INIS Fest when the folk-rock group take to the stage on Friday June 26th at the Ennis Showgrounds as part of the Rock segment of the festival.
They now join Clareman Daithí O’Dronaí, Damien Dempsey and Christy Moore in the list of acts signed by Sony Music Ireland.
