Ballyea is home to a new national champion as young Jack Clohessy claimed the Irish Masters U8 Golf title this weekend.

Played at Fernhill Golf Club in Carrigaline, Clohessy a member of Ennis Golf Club emerged victorious in a field of over forty players while a large crowd gathered to watch the excitement at the Cork course.

After shooting an amazing score of thirty seven gross for nine holes, Jack edged past his Down counterpart by three shots and the reigning Leinster champion by one shot in a stunning display to secure the title.

It is the latest accolade for the Banner youngster who is fast becoming a rising star in the sport having already won the Connacht Open this year.
