2014 saw Cannonball Ireland raise an incredible €112,300 for Make-A-Wish® Ireland to help grant extraordinary wishes to children aged 3-17 years battling life-threatening medical conditions.
The Cannonball event, is Europe’s largest organised road trip. Over 150 super cars will take to the streets around Ireland in spectacular style stopping at festivals and gatherings along the way to raise much needed funds for Make-A-Wish Ireland®.
Killaloe will host the event on September 12th from 12:00 – 14:00 and a big request has been issued for volunteers to help make Cannonball a success once more. Should you wish to volunteer, email Barbara@makeawish.ie or ring 01 2052012. Volunteers must be aged 16 and over. All volunteers will be assisted by an event team put in place by the charity.
Speaking exclusively to The Clare Herald, Barbara Cahill, Head of Volunteer Relations with Make-A-Wish Ireland mentioned the benefits of the fundraiser. “Cannonball is an amazing event that brings over 100,000 spectators to the towns and villages to see the super cars in action. For Make-A-Wish Ireland® it helps raise awareness for the charity and also valuable funds to grant wishes for children with life threatening illnesses. The funds raised from this event will have a huge effect on our waiting list, which has just under 200 children on it.”
Padraig Harrington is an Ambassador for the event and he is hopeful that people will give Cannonball the support it deserves. ”I am proud to be an ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and delighted to be helping them to launch this year’s Cannonball event. The Cannonball road trip is sure to be a fantastic spectacle and I hope as many people as possible come out to enjoy the festivities while raising money for this worthy children’s charity”.
