Cooraclare secured their place in the Clare Senior Football Championship Final when they had six points to spare over Clondegad.

Cooraclare 4-10
Clondegad 2-13
Venue: St Michael’s Park, Kilmihill

There was very little between the sides in the opening twenty minutes but a goal from Cooraclare’s Rory Donnelly edged his side in front. They picked up another goal four minutes later when a free taken by Joe Downes dropped short and Tadhg Lillis capitalised to leave the Milesians 2-05 to 0-07 ahead at the break.

Ger Lawlor’s men took complete control of proceedings when Tom Downes fired to the back of the net on the fiftieth minute and substitute Jack Morrissey raised another green flag three minutes later to the delight of the Cooraclare crowd.

Clondegad made them work till the end however with Podge McMahon and Shane Brennan goals cutting the gap and ensuring it would be a nervy finish for both. The 1997 Champions rode out the storm with a late injury time point from Rory Donnelly sealing the win for the Sky Blues and setting up a County Final date with St Josephs Miltown on October 18th.

  1. Seriously, lads! I love what ye are doing, some of the best coverage of Clare matches, I count on ye to follow the club scene at home. But this might have been one of the best matches this year, and it has some of the shallowest coverage to date! No teams, no breakdown of the halves, no photo gallery, etc. Not up to the high standard ye have sat so far!
