Gort Golf Club lose out in All-Ireland final

Gort Golf Club All-Ire teamThere was heartbreak for Golf Gort Club in the All-Ireland AIG Pierce Purcell Shield Final as they lost out to Thurles 4-1 at Carton House Golf Club.

Eight of the ten starting team hail from Corofin, Co Clare namely; Paddy Curtis, Michael O’Dell, Gerry Connors, David O’Dell, Michael Ryan, David Daly, Matthew O’Halloran and John Tierney. They are joined by John Moylan and Brendan McHugh on the team.

Although they got off to the better start in the foursomes with Gerry Connors and David O’Dell getting a better score than their Thurles counterparts Pat Coote and John Dwan in the first completed round, Thurles came out on top in the other battles to be pick up the All-Ireland title.

Gort Golf Club qualified for the final with a 4-1 win over Ulster Champions, Nurmore. While they will be disappointed with coming up short, the Golf Club has been quick to praise it’s ten man team for their enthusiasm and efforts over the past months and providing such memorable experiences.
