A search operation is being undertaken along the River Shannon this morning following reports that a body was seen in a canal near Ardnacrusha power station on Tuesday.
The search was suspended on Tuesday night but resumed again Wednesday morning.
It’s understood that the emergency services were alerted to a body in the river by a passing motorist.
The driver’s son said he saw what he believed to be an arm with clothing on it sticking out of the water.
Fearing there was someone in difficulty in the river, emergency services were contacted.
The Killaloe-based unit of the Irish Coast Guard , Limerick City and County Fire Service and the Shannon-based Coast Guard rescue helicopter are involved in the search.
