Limerick fcThe Mid West’s only Premier Division League of Ireland side were relegated on Friday night after a heartbreaking 2-1 aggregate defeat to Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Limerick FC went into tonight’s tie 1-0 up thanks to a Shaun Kelly strike at Marketsfield but fell behind to a Michael Funston effort on 39 minutes.

The Shannonsiders held on for the remainder of the regular 90 minutes and the game looked to be going to penalties until Harps’ BJ Banda headed up four minutes from time in extra-time.

Martin Russell’s side now face life in the First Division next season.
