On this day (November 16) in 1920, three IRA men were arrested by the Auxiliaries near Killaloe. Alphonsus (Alphie) Rodgers, Michael (Brud) McMahon and Martin Kildea were beaten, interrogated and then shot dead.
Another IRA colleague of the three men, Micheál Egan had already been shot and killed by the Black and Tans.
Some historians believe the arrests and executions were a belated reprisal for the Rineen Ambush a few months later.
Another two were summarily executed in the same way on 22 December at Kilkee.
