The footballers had the narrowest of wins over Tipperary in the McGrath Cup when they ran out 1-10 to 0-12 winners.
A Kieran Malone goal in the closing stages grabbed Colm Collins’ side all points in a game that saw the introduction of David Tubridy from the bench inspire a Clare comeback.
In Sixmilebridge, Davy Fitzgerald’s Clare hurlers also needed a late goal to see off the challenge of Cork in their opening clash of the Munster Senior Hurling League.
Shane O’Donnell was sprung from the bench in the second half and his goal along with a five-point haul by Captain for the day, Tony Kelly helped Clare to a 1-14 to 0-14 win. Elsewhere, Limerick defeated Kerry by 2-23 to 0-18.
