Newmarket-on-Fergus athlete Gearoid McMahon has been honoured on the national stage for the second year in-a-row.

A member of the Shannon Athletics Club, Gearoid was awarded the AAI Juvenile Race Walker for the second year in succession.

He was presented with the accolade by current Irish senior record holder for the 400m Hurdles, Thomas Barr.

In July of last year, McMahon claimed his first ever International medal at the SIAB Track & Field International in Grangemouth Stadium, Scotland. He has previously collected the prestigious Roisin O’Callaghan Memorial Cup for the ‘Best Race Walking Athlete of the Meet’ award.

A student at St Caimin’s Community School in Shannon, Gearoid is continuing to enhance his reputation in the athletics world and is certainly one to keep an eye on in the Clare sporting scene.
