Clare County Council has confirmed it is investigating the discovery of two animal carcasses on Whitestrand beach Doonbeg.

The pair of calves were spotted washed up on the beach by a member of the public on Sunday who later alerted Ireland’s national animal protection group, Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN), to the discovery.

The Council says both animals will be studied to determine their origin before being removed for disposal.

In 2014, up to 15 horse and cattle carcasses and calves were discovered about a mile and a half away from the site of the weekend discovery.
