The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard was alerted and quickly launched their boat reaching the scene within minutes.

Passersby had also thrown a life-ring down to the man.

On arrival at the scene, rescuers found the kayaker had clambered up the rockface onto a grassy area where he was located by land teams. He was said to be exhausted and very cold.

The casualty was taken on board the rescue boat and rushed back to the Coast Guard base where he was cared for until ambulance paramedics arrived.

Rescuers wrapped the men in blankets in an effort to warm him up. It’s understood he was in the water for some time.

He was assessed by medics and found to be well enough to make his own way home. He didn’t required hospitalisation.

The man’s kayak was also damaged in the incident while it’s understood he was left drifting across the bay after the weather turned and the winds increased.
