The final round of the 2016 Titleist sponsored Mid West Alliance saw Andrew MacCormack (Castletroy) and Alan Neville (Dromoland) win the 0-3 hcp and 4-9 hcp categories respectively at the weekend.

The 24 year old Newcastle West native began the day only 1 point in front of Dromoland’s Jason O’Leary and he increased that to 2 pts after a par at 1st hole.

He played the par 5’s and Dromolands Amen Corner holes 9, 10 & 11 conservatively whilst playing attacking golf on the par 3’s. MacCormack led from the opening round and his wire to wire 54 holes MWA victory leaves him full of confidence as he heads to Rosses Point next week to play in the West of Ireland championship.

In the 4-9 hcp category former Clare All Ireland senior hurling winner Alan Neville displayed great fighting qualities on the back nine as he just about held off the tenacious Dromoland teenager Killian Howard to capture his third MWA 4-9 hcp category in row.

Throughout the final round Neville could not compete from the tee with the very long and accurate drives from Killian Howard. Instead the calm and collected Neville demonstrated a razor sharp short game as he got up and down 6 times over the last 10 holes to claim his 3rd title.
