Substitute Aron Shanagher’s late goal for Clare handed his side a hard earned victory over Tipperary in Cusack Park in Sunday’s Allianz National Hurling League Quarter Final.
Clare ran out one point winners on a scoreline of 2-13 to 0-18.
John Conlon’s superb first-half goal gave the Banner a 1-7 to 0-8 half-time lead but Tipperary dominated for much of the second half outscoring Clare by 9 points to 4 going into the final 10 minutes.
The entrance to the game of substitutes David Fitzgerald, Cathal O’Connell, Colin Ryan and Aron Shanagher in the second half proved influential however. Fitzgerald’s aerial dominance, along with O’Connell’s two pointed frees and Shanagher’s goal helped their side to a narrow win.
Davy Fitzgerald’s team face Kilkenny in the semi-final in two weeks time (April 17th) after the Cats were comfortable winners over Offaly on Sunday. Elsewhere, Limerick who overcame Dublin on Saturday will play Waterford after the Deise were one point winners over Wexford at Wexford Park.
Clare are likely to welcome back a number of players from their lengthy injury list for the game with Kilkenny. John Conlon will be a concern however, having picked up a wrist injury in Sunday’s win.
Clare meanwhile, remain unbeaten in 2016 following victories over Kerry (2), Limerick (2), Offaly, Wexford, Cork, Laois, Waterford and Tipperary.
