Body recovered from water in Liscannor

The body of a man has been recovered from the water in a harbour in Co Clare.

The man, named locally as Michael Burke, is believed to have fallen into the water at Liscannor Harbour late last night.

Mr Burke, who was aged 69, was a retired school teacher from Castletroy in Limerick.

His body was found floating between two boats at around 2.00am by a local man who alerted the emergency services.

Gardaí and members of the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard responded to the scene.

The body was recovered from the water and taken to the nearby pier before being removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.

Gardaí are investigating the discovery but it’s believed to be a tragic accident.

Meanwhile, the search will continue today for a man feared missing in west Clare area since last Friday.

The search is being concentrated along the coast from Hags Head to Blackhead.
