Clare County Council has confirmed construction work on the Ennis Market Rejuvenation Project is progressing on schedule and will deliver a new covered building for market traders in Ennis town centre by the end of July 2016.
Phase One of the redevelopment of the market at Garraunakilla, the site of the Farmer’s Market, also features the upgrading of public infrastructure surrounding the site including parking, roads and footpaths, the upgrading of existing public roadways, site lighting, street furniture, the demolition of the existing structures, and landscaping and planting.
Clare County Council is reminding the public that it is “business as usual” in the Market area while the Regeneration Project is being completed. Signage detailing temporary changes to vehicular access to the market are in place.
Mayor of Ennis Cllr Pat Daly said, “This very significant investment by Clare County Council in the heart of Ennis will enhance the market to standards expected in the modern age. It will provide traders with a quality and convenient location to promote their locally sourced and produced goods.2
“In the meantime, it is important that the public is aware that it is business and usual in the market area,” added Mayor Daly.
The creative market redevelopment design has been provided by the design team led by P. Coleman & Associates, Consulting Engineers. The construction works are being undertaken on behalf of Clare County Council by O’Brien Builders and Civil Engineering Contracts Ltd., Knockliscrane, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare
