Clare County Council has confirmed that following further recent structural investigations, a load assessment and sensitivity analysis, a temporary weight restriction of 3.5 tonnes will remain in effect for Latoon Creek Bridge on the R458 (Old N18), located 4 kilometres south of Clarecastle.
The Council said the decision to retain the weight restriction has been made on the advice of Consulting Engineers. Recent structural investigations, a load assessment and sensitivity analysis will allow for the necessary repairs to be designed for the complex structure.
Tender Documents will be prepared, advertised and a tender report completed on returned tenders before a Contractor can be selected, appointed and the repairs carried out. It is expected that this process will take several months.
Warning signage regarding the weight restriction is in place indicating that the limit is 3.5 tonnes. There are no exemptions.
