Féile Focus: Feakle/Killanena

Feakle-Killanena Féile CamogieGaultier in Waterford is the destination for Feakle/Killanena as they participate in the Féile na nGael, Brid MacNamara finds out how the East Clare club are feeling ahead of the weekend.

Club Name: Feakle/Killanena
Club formed in what year: Both clubs formed in the 1950’s
Number of underage members: 100
Féile team captain: Roisin Quilligan & Zi Yan Spillane
Féile team mentors: Pauline McNamara, Paul Nugent, Ger McNamara, Michael Spillane
Féile venue: Gaultier, Co Waterford
Are the players looking forward to Féile? Yes the players are really looking forward to Féile. This is the first time the clubs have qualified for Division 1 which involves a weekend event.
How have the team been preparing? With the U14 Championship just over we have been continuing with our regular weekly sessions.
Any previous experience of Féile? For the past two years we have competed in the Regional Féile Competitions bringing home success on both occasions. In 2010 both clubs competed in the Clare Féile and in 2011 Killanena were invited to participate in the Galway Féile and won Division 5.
What has been local reaction to the team going to Féile? The success of qualifying for the National Feile has gained attention around both parishes and people are very interested in what is involved.
How de ye hope to get on in Féile? Our aim is to play as well as we can and hopefully do well in our group. We don’t know much about our opposition so we will take every game as it comes. The most important thing is that the weekend will be a memorable one for the players.
Do ye think the Regional Blitzes are good for the development of Féile? Regional Blitzes are good for the development of camogie as it gives teams the opportunity to play against teams from other counties and see the standard in other areas.
Does attending Féile help raise your Club profile locally? Qualifying for Féile certainly does raise the profile of our club. The community have been very supportive of our fundraising events. The locals are very interested to hear how the club is doing.
