UL & Shannon Chamber team-up for business breakfast

Shannon ChamberA keen interest in ensuring that its member companies remain competitive prompted Shannon Chamber to invite the University of Limerick’s (UL) Science and Engineering faculty, the Kemmy Business School and the School of Law to visit Shannon.

The purpose of the visit, which will take place in the Viewing Gallery at Shannon Airport on Thursday, 9 June from 7.30am to 9.30am., is to give Shannon companies a comprehensive appreciation of the range of continuing and professional education programmes that UL provides to individuals and companies, and the scope of opportunities available to businesses in areas such as collaborative research or the compilation of bespoke training programmes to meet a company’s specific needs.

Explaining the background to the event, Shannon Chamber’s chief executive Helen Downes said: “Time is a precious commodity for busy executives so we thought it would be so much easier to invite UL to Shannon rather than vice versa. We were delighted when 11 course leaders and representatives from the leading research centres and institutes in UL agreed to travel to the heart of Shannon, Shannon Airport, to put on a ‘roadshow’ of their entire offering to business people.

“The event has been specifically structured to provide an overview of the various CPE programmes being offered by the University of Limerick. Following a light breakfast, the course leaders will give a series of rapid informative presentations on their range of programmes including examples of collaborative projects undertaken with industry and courses that have been designed to meet both learner and employer requirements. The second part of the event will allow attendees to meet with the presenters and network in an informal environment.

“It’s an ideal event for HR directors and managers, training and development specialists or anyone interested in continuing and professional education and collaborative research” Downes concluded.

Ann Ledwith, Director of Continuing Professional Development for the University of Limerick in Ireland and Chair of the Mid-West Skills forum added: “ UL is delighted to be working with Shannon Chamber to showcase both the University’s Continuing and Professional Education offerings and some of the research projects that are a result of the close industry collaboration. Moving off campus to engage with business and industry reinforces UL’S long standing reputation of being aligned with the skills needs of the Irish economy.”

This event is free of charge and is open to Chamber members and non-members. For further information or to make a booking, contact Shannon Chamber at 06 708341 or book online.
