Teenager injured in Kilkee cycling accident

A 13-year-old boy is recovering in hospital sustaining serious injuries in a bicycle accident in west Clare this evening.

The incident happened at around 7.00pm on Station Road in Kilkee. The teenager had been out cycling with a group of friends at the time and no vehicle was involved.

An ambulance from Kilrush and rapid response advanced paramedic unit from Ennis responded to the incident while the Shannon based search and rescue helicopter was also sent to the scene.

The local unit of the Irish Coast Guard was requested to assist and secure a landing site for the helicopter.

As the helicopter was about to land at the local GAA field the crew was diverted to another call.

The child was transported to University Hospital Limerick by ambulance for treatment.
