A survivor of Monday’s tragedy in Kilkee has laid a wreath near the scene of the accident that claimed the life of her colleague Caitríona Lucas.

Kilkee Coast Guard volunteer Jenny Carway was comforted by colleagues from both the Kilkee and Doolin units of the service at this afternoons short ceremony.

Jenny had been on the Kilkee Coast Guard RIB when they got into difficulty. Her Kilkee colleague James Lucey and Ms Lucas from the Doolin unit, were tossed into the sea.

At the time, they had been involved in the search for missing Lissycasey man David McMahon.

The wreath laying was held near the Diamond Rocks in Kilkee soon after the wreckage of the rescue boat was salvaged from the base of the cliff and removed from the scene.

Ennis based priest Fr Jerry Carey addressed the group of about 30 which included members of the Irish Coast Guard, Clare Civil Defence and An Garda Síochána.

Along with a photo of Caitríona was a verse from the Bible.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
