Six members of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service, with 140 years of service between them, have been recognised by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.
The Long Service Awards were set up by the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to give recognition to fire service personnel with over 10, 20 and 30 years’ service.
The awards are run on the Minister’s behalf by the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.
Among this year’s recipients were six members from three of Clare’s seven stations.
Two members have been recognised for three decades of service each while four others have worked as firefighters been 20 years.
Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council Bill Chambers said: ” Clare County Fire and Rescue Service has a proud tradition of Service to the people of Clare and today its staff are among the most highly trained and best equipped in the country. The commitment and professionalism of those being honoured with long service awards is reflective of the highly experienced personnel employed by the Fire Service in Clare.”
Chief Fire Officer for Co Clare Adrian Kelly added: “I would like to acknowledge and congratulate those in receipt of Long Service Awards. The roles and responsibilities of Service staff are many and varied. Therefore, continuous training is required to ensure the Service responds to and deals with emergency and rescue incidents with maximum efficiency.”
