Oil spillages on N18 and in Shannon Town

12.15pm – Both lanes of N18 now reopened. Sliproad at J7 still closed while clean-up continues.

Clare County Fire and Rescue Service crews are dealing with several oil spillages in the Shannon area.

Shannon fire service were alerted to the first incident at around 10.30am when a spillage was reported at Junction 7 (Hurlers Cross) on the N18.

On arrival at the scene, fire crews found a refuse lorry parked in the hard shoulder after suffering a hydraulic leak.

Fire personnel set up traffic control measures and closed the off-ramp while they dealt with the incident.

The Regional Fire Control Centre in Limerick received further calls about spillages at junction 8 (Ballycasey) and in Shannon Town Centre. One motorist reported spinning out of control near Skycourt.

Traffic Infrastructure Ireland are also assisting the a clean-up operation on the N18 at Hurlers Cross incident.

Motorists are advised to driver with care in the area.
