Clare County Council has confirmed O’Connell Square and O’Connell Street from O’Connell Square to its junction with Station Road will be pedestrianised on a number of days during the lead up to Christmas.

The road closures will take place from midday to 6.00 p.m. on Saturday 17 December, Sunday 18 December, Friday 23 December and on Christmas Eve. Alternative routes and diversions will be put in place with traffic from High Street and Abbey Street being directed onto Bank Place.

Mayor of Ennis Cllr. Ann Norton said, “The pedestrianisation of Ennis Town Centre has proven to be major attraction to consumers in the past. More importantly, the pedestrianisation of the O’Connell Street and O’Connell Square will improve safety for the increased volumes of shoppers during run up the Christmas.”

“I believe the road closures and the provision of free car parking at certain dates and times over the next month will help to encourage more people to visit and shop in Ennis,” Norton added.
