Kelly & Gavin families toast in success of Shannon Springs

Shannon Springs Hotel recently celebrated its first year under new management.

When Morty & Sadie Kelly from Ruan Co. Clare and Liam & Sheila Gavin from Mullingar, Co Westmeath first set eyes on their sons’ new purchase in December 2015, they were worried about the amount of work that lay ahead of the duo but knowing their tenacity, they instinctively knew they would see it though successfully.

So it came to pass that, at the turn of the year, they returned to Shannon with their entire families to spend a night at the Shannon Springs Hotel and join with locals in toasting the success of their sons’ Dermot and John.

“It’s a tough business to be in but we knew the boys had it in them to make a go of it. We knew they would make a great team. Dermot’s feel for the business is inherited from his mother and the hours spent behind the counter in Murty Kelly’s in Ruan and John’s attention to food detail has been gathered from his culinary experiences throughout Europe. It sure is a long cry from their childhood days but we are so proud to witness their success here in Shannon and to hear their praises being sung by so many locals; it’s a great feeling altogether,” the proud fathers said.

That was the general feeling of the locals who gathered to celebrate the first anniversary of the Shannon Springs Hotel. “Their attention to detail is second to none,” says Tony Mannion , who has been living in Shannon for over eighteen years and loves being able to walk to a friendly local in the Ballycasey area.

Mannion continued “You feel so welcome here. The staff are local, young, and exceptionally well trained. It’s exactly what this area needed and we wish them every success with the venture as it grows its clientele.
