Long after the Shannonside Winter Music Festival has finished, echoes of all musical genres can still be heard around Sixmilebridge throughout the year.

There’s regular trad sessions with members of Sixmilebridge Folk Club and, prompted by positive musical experiences and a warm welcome, visiting musicians often drop in to say hello.

Such is the case with Jeff Scroggins and Colorado Bluegrass Band. The stunning vocals of Greg Blake was a highlight at the 2016 Winter Fest and bluegrass music lovers are getting a change to hear this great band again when they visit McGregor’s Bar in Sixmilebridge. Co Clare on Thursday, 23 February as guests of the Sixmilebridge Folk Club.

The band features two-time USA National Banjo Champion Jeff Scroggins on Banjo; Arizona State mandolin champion, 22-year-old Tristan Scroggins (Jeff’s son) on mandolin and vocals; the best Bluegrass vocalist that has ever toured Ireland, Greg Blake, on guitar and lead vocals; Rockygrass Bluegrass Festival and The Arizona State Fiddle Champion, Ellie Hakanson on fiddle and vocals; and Mark Schatz on bass.

Mark is one of the most-recorded bass players in Bluegrass; he has recorded and toured with artists such as Bela Fleck, Gerry Douglas, Emmylou Harris, Nickel Creek, Tony Rice and Tim O’Brien to mention but a few.
