The car had driven almost a kilometre on just three wheels

A woman was arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle which was reported driving on just three wheels.

The car is believed to have been driven up to a kilometre along the R469 Ennis to Quin road and down a country lane before it stopped in the entrance to a local farm.

The woman, believed to be in her 20’s, was found in the car when gardaí arrived at the scene at around 7.30pm.

The wheel was later found on the side of the main Ennis to Quin road.

She was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle and taken to Ennis Garda station for questioning. She was later released without charge.

The Peugeot car was removed from the scene on a tow truck and was expected to be technically examined. The wheel was later found lying on the side of the main Ennis to Quin road.

It wasn’t clear where the vehicle was coming from or travelling to or how the car lost its wheel.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident and whether there were any other persons in the car with the woman at the time.
