The search has resumed at the Blue Pool near Doonbeg for a man who was washed into the sea early on Saturday.

The man, understood to be a Russian national in his 40s, was reported missing at around 9.00am on Saturday.

A major search and rescue operation was mounted that has to date involved Irish Coast Guard units from Kilkee, Doolin and Killaloe.

The Shannon based search and rescue helicopter has also been involved in the operation.

Divers from a number of sub aqua clubs carried out searches yesterday morning and afternoon and were joined by members of the Garda Water Unit.

A total of 29 personnel including divers, boat crew and shore marshals were involved. These included members of Burren, Kilkee, Ennis, Limerick and Lough Derg sub aqua clubs.

Members of Clare Civil Defence are also due to join the effort.
